tips for trips
- Znojmo (35 km) with historical downtown tour. Znojmo undergrounds is unique historical sight. The labyrint of the hallways is underneath the whole medieval city and it is 30 kilometres long. The hallways are often built in up to 4 floors above each other. They were dug from the 13th century until the end of 17th century. The city were connected with the castle. The Town Hall Tower is 80 metres tall. In the largest dome, there is many of documents dating medieval times and documenting reapiring of the city. In case of good visibility, Pálava peaks and Lower Austrian Alps can be seen.
- Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou (33 km) – The most important monument of the city is a baroque church of St. Margaret. Originally it was a fortress built in the 14th century, which was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. It got its current baroque appearance by rebuilding in first half of 18th century. It features a French style chateau garden with its large part in the English style.
- Telč (46 km) – UNESCO monument. Beautiful square surrounded by the buildings with arcades and picturesque gables. Luxurious Renaissance castle with quality interiors, including excellent examples of Renaissance art.
- Vranov nad Dyjí (13 km) – Former castle on a steep promontory overlooking the river Dyje was part of local defense system. In the 17th century was rebuilt into a baroque castle. The interiors are documenting the culture of noble living in the 18th and 19th century. The most valuable artistical part of the castle is the hall of ancesters and the chapel.
- Bítov (4 km) – It is one of the oldest castles in Bohemia. It lies above the junction of rivers Dyje and Želetavka. In the mid-19th century it received its present neo-gothic appearance. It features beautiful illusive paintings and it is known for its natural collections.
